ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT WATER QUALITY PARAMETERS OF WATER SOURCES OF MEERUT REGION (UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA) FOR SUITABILITY OF FISH PRODUCTION

Abstract:
In the present study, water samples were collected from different water source of Meerut District during February 2015 to February 2016 from different depth of water. The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the magnitude of physiochemical and biological parameter of water in different water sources with a view to assess its suitability for fish culture. The results showed that the pH ranged from 8.00-10 mg/l; DO 2.0-3.0 mg/l; BOD 2.0-7.5 mg/l; COD 14.5-15 mg/l; total dissolved solids 84 – 86 mg/l; total hardness 130 -140 mg/l; calcium 140- 150 mg/l; magnesium 46-48 mg/l; chlorides 38.90-40.30 mg/l; nitrites 0.02-0.03 mg/l; alkalinity 54-198mg/l in all selected ponds.
