PHYSICO-CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION ON THE SONG RIVER IN DEHRADUN

Present work deals with the assessment of physico-chemical parameters of water samples of Song River at Dehradun during 2007-2009. The parameters like colour, odour, temperature, total dissolved solids, total solids, total suspended solids, conductivity, velocity, depth, pH, free CO2, alkalinity, hardness, chlorides, dissolved oxygen, biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, nitrate, organic matter and sulphate were undertaken. The present study revealed that river water was not much polluted except some parameters like TS, TDS and TSS. Hence, there is a need for continued monitoring of the common resource under strict water quality surveillance to ensure for the health and environmental safety of the river basin.
