Abstract
This study reveals sex related variations in the Indian catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis. The haematological parameters include total erythrocyte count (TEC), total leucocyte count (TLC), haemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV), red cell indices (MCH, MCHC, MCV), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), glucose, differential leukocyte count (DLC) and Differential erythrocyte count (DEC). It was observed that the values of the total erythrocyte count (TEC), haemoglobin concentration (Hb ), haematocrit values, packed cell volume (PCV) and neutrophil count were higher in males than the females. Although the variations were insignificant (p>0.05) between male and female Heteropneustes fossilis in the various haematological parameters except TEC as well as in erythrocytes and microcytes count.
