Abstract:
Pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) is the main crop of the Patan district of Gujarat state. Pearl millet is grown in two seasons, viz. summer and kharif. The variety viz. Pioneer of pearl millet selected for study purpose. Pearl millet damage by bird pests in Patan district is a serious predicament. The economy of the Patan area primarily depends on agriculture out of the total number of persons majorly engaged in agriculture. This research work was conducted during 2011 at Hansapur village of Patan district. During the work, bird pests were identified and carried out an assessment of losses for 2011 – 2012. During the entire period of seed setting to harvesting stages, heavy losses occur as the exposed crop seeds attract several bird species.
