A NEW SPECIES OF GENUS CERATINA LATREILLE, SUBGENUS CERATINIDIA COCKERELL & PORTER (HYMENOPTERA: APIDAE), FROM HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA

Abstract:

There are 31 species of genus Ceratina Latreille subgenus Ceratinidia Cockerell & Porter (Hymenoptera, Apoidea, Apidae, Xylocopinae, Ceratinini), known from oriental region. This list includes eleven species described from India. Ceratina gigantica a new species, discovered from Ladhu village in Sirmour district (Himachal Pradesh) during the month of October 2012, has been described. The description of new species follows its comparison with closely related Ceratina moderata Cameron and Ceratina simillima Smith also known from north India and nearby countries.
